Researcher Alessandra Favata has successfully defended her doctoral thesis entitled “Clinical application of a wearable system for assessing upper limb motor function in children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy and spinal muscular atrophy”, developed within the BIOMECLab Research Group at the Institute for Research and Innovation in Health (IRIS), under the supervision of Dr. Josep Maria Font Llagunes and Dr. Rosa Pàmies Vilà.
The research, funded by La Marató de TV3, was carried out in collaboration with the Institute of Robotics and Industrial Informatics (IRI, CSIC-UPC) and Sant Joan de Déu Children’s Hospital in Barcelona. The work represents a step forward in the use of wearable systems to assess upper limb motor function in children affected by Duchenne muscular dystrophy and spinal muscular atrophy.
This technology enables the collection of objective and continuous data on patients’ movements, which can enhance clinical monitoring and the evaluation of treatment efficacy in pediatric neuromuscular disorders.
From BIOMECLab, we warmly congratulate Dr. Favata on this achievement, which reinforces the group’s commitment to innovation in health and neuromuscular rehabilitation.
