New publication by members of the DEM in Machines

The journal Machines has published an article by the professors Joaquim M. Veciana Fontanet, Pau Salvadó Escuer, Pau Català Calderon, and Lluïsa Jordi Nebot, from the research group CDEI - DM, entitled Analysis of Energy Efficiency in Spur Gear Transmissions: Cycloidal Versus Involute Profiles.

The study performs a comparative analysis of the involute and cycloidal profiles in spur gears concerning the passive resistance torque caused by the frictional force at the tooth flank contact, and deduces the power losses and energy efficiency. This force is accurately approximated using analytical models of elasto-hydrodynamic coefficient of friction.
