TECNOFAB researchers present the group's burnishing tools patented to industrial partners in Catalonia

On Tuesday, December 14, 2021, the day of presentation of the project “Industrial implementation of burnishing for the finishing of surfaces of injection molds” (2019 PROD 00036 / IU68-016743 took place in the Center of Practical Training of Fundación Lacetània ) of the TECNOFAB research group at the UPC. This project is co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and has the support of the Secretariat of Universities and Research of the Department of Business and Knowledge of the Generalitat de Catalunya. The day was carried out with the collaboration of the companies Tungaloy Spain and Helion. Attendees were able to see the results of the project which are the three tools for turning and milling toasting that the group has developed and tested in recent years, as well as a cutting tool assisted by ultrasonic vibration. All these tools allow to carry out the objectives of the project: automate finishing processes to replace them with manual operations, integrating them into the routine of manufacturing with CNC machine tools, thus saving manual finishing work . In addition to increasing the quality of the roughness, hardened surfaces with greater wear resistance are obtained.
